John 4:15-18 The Savior of the World [Part 4]

Today's sermon covered 1) the Samaritan woman's request for living water, 2) Jesus' commands for her husband to come, 3) the Samaritan woman's half truth about her relationship, and 4) Jesus' confrontation about her immorality.

John 4:15-18

The woman said to Him, “Sir, give me this water, so I will not be thirsty nor come all the way here to draw.” He said to her, “Go, call your husband and come here.” The woman answered and said, “I have no husband.” Jesus said to her, “You have correctly said, ‘I have no husband’; for you have had five husbands, and the one whom you now have is not your husband; this you have said truly.”

John 4:11-14 The Savior of the World [Part 3]

[Summary pending]

John 4:11-14

She said to Him, “Sir, You have nothing to draw with and the well is deep; where then do You get that living water? You are not greater than our father Jacob, are You, who gave us the well, and drank of it himself and his sons and his cattle?” Jesus answered and said to her, “Everyone who drinks of this water will thirst again; but whoever drinks of the water that I will give him shall never thirst; but the water that I will give him will become in him a well of water springing up to eternal life.”

John 4:7-10 The Savior of the World [Part 2]

In this next section, Jesus requests water from the Samaritan woman (The Request), which she refuses (The Refusal), after which Jesus offers her the gift of God (The Offer).

John 4:7-10

There came a woman of Samaria to draw water. Jesus said to her, “Give Me a drink.” For His disciples had gone away into the city to buy food. Therefore the Samaritan woman said to Him, “How is it that You, being a Jew, ask me for a drink since I am a Samaritan woman?” (For Jews have no dealings with Samaritans.) Jesus answered and said to her, “If you knew the gift of God, and who it is who says to you, ‘Give Me a drink,’ you would have asked Him, and He would have given you living water.”

John 4:1-6 The Savior of the World [Part 1]

These verses describe the setting of the event in which Jesus journeys from Judea to Galilee, pausing in Samaria.  The setting includes the reason for the journey, the route for the journey, and the rest in the journey.

John 4:1-6

"Therefore when the Lord knew that the Pharisees had heard that Jesus was making and baptizing more disciples than John (although Jesus Himself was not baptizing, but His disciples were), He left Judea and went away again into Galilee. And He had to pass through Samaria. So He came to a city of Samaria called Sychar, near the parcel of ground that Jacob gave to his son Joseph; and Jacob’s well was there. So Jesus, being wearied from His journey, was sitting thus by the well. It was about the sixth hour."

John 3:31-36 Christ Must Increase [Part 7]

Today's sermon discusses the patrimonial aspect of the words of Christ. In verse 35, we cover the gift, the receiver and the action. In verse 36, we cover the response to Christ and the wrath of God.

John 3:31-36

“He who comes from above is above all, he who is of the earth is from the earth and speaks of the earth. He who comes from heaven is above all. What He has seen and heard, of that He testifies; and no one receives His testimony. He who has received His testimony has set his seal to this, that God is true. For He whom God has sent speaks the words of God; for He gives the Spirit without measure. The Father loves the Son and has given all things into His hand. He who believes in the Son has eternal life; but he who does not obey the Son will not see life, but the wrath of God abides on him.”

John 3:31-36 Christ Must Increase [Part 6]

Today's sermon discusses the interactions between the Persons of the triune God, 1) God the Father as the sender, 2) God the Son as the receiver, 3) the Spirit of God as the gift, and 4) the limitless nature of the gift.

Acts 20:25-31 - More on Paul's Exemplary Leadership

Today's sermon discusses the following aspects of Paul's exemplary leadership, 1) eagerness to instruct people, 2) availability to meet and invest into people daily, 3) attitude of humility and willingness to suffer for others, 4) model teacher, 5) example of faithfulness.

Acts 20:25-31

“And now, behold, I know that all of you, among whom I went about preaching the kingdom, will no longer see my face. Therefore, I testify to you this day that I am innocent of the blood of all men. For I did not shrink from declaring to you the whole purpose of God. Be on guard for yourselves and for all the flock, among which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers, to shepherd the church of God which He purchased with His own blood. I know that after my departure savage wolves will come in among you, not sparing the flock; and from among your own selves men will arise, speaking perverse things, to draw away the disciples after them. Therefore be on the alert, remembering that night and day for a period of three years I did not cease to admonish each one with tears.

John 3:31-36 Christ Must Increase [Part 5]

Today's sermon discusses the 1) testimony of Jesus - that He spoke from His own authority, in contrast to prophets, and 2) the triune nature of Jesus' words -  when Jesus speaks, He is not quoting the Father, but that the Father also speaks.
