John 7:40-52, Come to Christ (Part 2)

The second of the Jews’ reaction to Christ was skepticism (7:41b-42). These were people who were only interested in raising objections to the legitimacy of Jesus’ messiahship but not interest in finding the truth. Skepticism must be directed away from the loving and trustworthy God of truth and toward the world and its ideas. May the Lord help us to perceive the biblical logic of love and live as those who wholeheartedly trust in the Lord and His Word.

John 7:40-52, Come to Christ

After the loud invitation of Christ for those who thirst to come to Him, the Jews react and their reactions give us an open window as to how we ought to properly respond to the Lord’s call to come to Him, as well, how we are to relay the message of Christ to others. In this first installment in this series, we look at the confessors of verses 40-41a and their inadequate response to Jesus’ words.

John 7:37-39, Satisfied and Transformed (Part 2)

In this second installment on Satisfied and Transformed, we look more in depth at what John reveals regarding the Holy Spirit’s new covenant work. Believers are to be receptive to the Holy Spirit. In what ways is the Holy Spirit at work in the lives of believers? Listen to find out. May God enable us to be a church of men, women and children full of the Holy Spirit.

John 7:37-39, Satisfied and Transformed

A righted relationship with God through Jesus Christ brings a spiritual satisfaction to the human soul. Jesus calls all those gathered at the feast of Booths to this blessing of God. Jesus offers this spiritual satisfaction as that which is available, conditional and transformative. Are you satisfied in Christ and are you a conduit of His blessing to others? This is what Christ came to bring to everyone who thirsts for the holy God.

John 7:32-36, The Unstoppable Purpose of God

The religious leaders of Jesus’ day wanted to stop His influence from spreading, but they could not. Even though they seek to stop Him now (and will seek to kill Him even in the future), they will not succeed, because the purpose of God is unstoppable, whether it relates to Jesus’ life or His death. And His unstoppable influence continued from Pentecost down through the ages to today when Jesus is continuing to build His church. May the unstoppable proclamation of Jesus Christ advance through His church for the glory of God.

John 7:25-31, Christ of False Expectations [Part 2]

Everyone must start somewhere in their faith in Christ. But one may enter into faith in Christ with wrong expectations. In this second installment of Christ of False Expectations, we consider “the many of the crowd” who believed in Jesus with the mere expectation that the Christ is the greatest performer of signs. But is this adequate for a genuine saving faith? We consider what the Scriptures have to say about faith that saves and faith that doesn’t.

John 7:25-31, Christ of False Expectations

False expectations are commonplace in life, however, false expectations about the Messiah can be eternally catastrophic. In this first installment on a study of this text, we look at one of the two false expectations that Jesus’ audience had at the temple during the feast of Tabernacles. May the Lord always keep our hearts yielded to the true Christ who came to save us from our sins and calls us to earnestly follow Him.
