The disciples struggle in a boat against battering waves and contrary wind. In the middle of the night, Jesus comes to the disciples by walking on the sea. Initially, the disciples become afraid, but Jesus calms their fears. Jesus permits Peter to walk on the water. When Peter becomes frightened and starts to sink, Jesus saves him and questions why Peter doubted. After all, there is no reason to be afraid. It is the Lord. When Peter and Jesus get back on the boat, the wind stops. The disciples respond to this awesome miracle by worshiping Jesus and saying a profound truth: "You are certainly God's Son." Jesus is indeed God's Son. He has authority over nature, evidenced by His ability to walk on water and by His command over the wind and the waves. Accordingly, He deserves nothing less than worship.
