Jesus taught a large crowd a parable about hearing the word of God. Only Jesus’ followers want to know what He means. When they ask Him, He says that only they get an explanation – everyone else only gets the parable. Jesus says that this is the first parable they need to understand. Then He explains the four types of hearers from His parable to His followers: the one who doesn’t get the word when he hears, the one who doesn’t trust the word when he hears, the one who doesn’t love the word when he hears, and the one who understands, trusts, and loves the word and continually listens to the word. This last kind of hearer bears fruit!
