After God brought the Israelites out of Egypt, He wanted Moses to tell the people of Israel that if they obey Him and keep His covenant, then they will be His own possession among all the peoples and a kingdom of priests and a holy nation. The people said they will do everything God has spoken and prepared for God to come down to Mount Sinai. While God was on Mount Sinai he spoke to the nation of Israel saying, “I am the LORD your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of slavery”. He told them how they must live as His people by giving them commandments to obey.
He gave 4 commandments telling them about their relationship with Him and 6 commandments telling them how they must treat one another. We will look at all of these in this lesson.
