David is now king of Israel. As king, he lives in a nice house (made of cedar wood). David realizes that he has this nice house but the Ark of Covenant (where God’s presence was with the Israelites all of these many years) didn’t have a house for itself. So, David had a plan to build the house for God. But God had a different plan. God’s plan was not for David to build the house but for his son (Solomon) to build the house. God’s plan was also to promise David that his family line will continue to be kings of Israel. Rather than being upset or discouraged for not being the one to build the house for God, David responded through prayer with humility, worship, and trust.
