Jesus goes to the mountains and preaches His sermon on the mount (i.e. beatitudes) which explains the traits (or descriptions) of being a disciple of Jesus. He explains that His disciples are blessed (or happy on the outside and inside) when it comes to being poor in spirit, saddened by sin, merciful, pure in heart, and persecuted. Jesus also compares His disciples to being salt and light of the world in that they too have a purpose which is to be examples of Jesus Christ for the world to see.
