When the Jews sought to kill Jesus for blasphemy, Jesus did not go on the defensive, but continued to assert His divine equality. Instead of appealing to the authority of others, as is the tradition of the rabbis, Jesus speaks for Himself, as there is no higher authority than God. In this sermon, we explore four points that Jesus’ makes to the Jews: 1) He has divine equality with the Father, 2) He mirrors the Father, 3) He is loved by the Father, 4) He astonishes the world with His works.

Therefore Jesus answered and was saying to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, the Son can do nothing of Himself, unless it issomething He sees the Father doing; for whatever the Father does, these things the Son also does in like manner. For the Father loves the Son, and shows Him all things that He Himself is doing; and the Father will show Him greater works than these, so that you will marvel.
