Titus 2:11-14, The Gifts of God's Grace

The grace of God not only saves us out of sin (remember the lifeline?), it also instructs us to say no to the wrong things and yes to the right things (remember the pondboy?). The grace of God also gives us the anticipation of the happy and shining return of Jesus our great God and Savior (liken to a wedding day!). Finally, the grace of God prepares us to live as Jesus’ own people, doing that which is good in His sight, for His glory and honor. We get to play on Jesus’ team! How marvelous indeed is the grace of God by which we are saved!

so that they may encourage the young women to love their husbands, to love their children, to be sensible, pure, workers at home, kind, being subject to their own husbands, so that the word of God will not be dishonored.

Titus 2:3-5 - Women's Role in the Home [Part 5]

Summary:

Today's sermon covers how women, both older and young, ought to conduct themselves in light of the "sound doctrine" Paul writes about in Titus 2:1, which is in contrast to the conduct that false teachers (at the end of Titus 1) preach and practice.  Paul specifically points out the attitudes and duties for women that allow them to "deny ungodliness and worldly desires and to live sensibly, righteously and godly in the present age." (Titus 2:12).

In this week's section we covered: who are the older vs. young women, the characteristics of the godly older woman, and the first of several character traits of the godly young woman.

Titus 2:3-5

Older women likewise are to be reverent in their behavior, not malicious gossips nor enslaved to much wine, teaching what is good, so that they may encourage the young women to love their husbands, to love their children, to be sensible, pure, workers at home, kind, being subject to their own husbands, so that the word of God will not be dishonored.
