Jesus’ love is steadfast, consistent, and reliable. His love was present in His ministry years, at the cross, and His post-ascension presence at the Father’s right hand. This is the love of Christ for His own people, a special love for His own sheep and for those whom the Father has given to Him. The Lord’s love for His own continues down to this very day through His priesthood, His prayers, and His pastoral care. May the love of Christ wise up our hearts to trust and obey Him with a whole heart.
Luke 14:25-35, The Call to Discipleship
John 13:1, The Love of Jesus Part 2
We see in this continuation of John 13:1 the depth of Jesus’ love for His people. Jesus loved His own with a deliberate love. This is seen in Jesus’ full awareness (“knowing”) of the arrival of the hour of His suffering and its import when He loved His people to the end (“finish”). Jesus willingly and deliberately went to the cross for His people with the intent that He would share with them the bounty of His Father’s blessings.
John 13:1, The Love of Jesus
John frames the 24 hour period (“Passion Day”), the final day of Jesus’ life, in terms of His love. John suggests three adjectives that describe the Lord’s love for His own: sacrificial, deliberate, and consistent. In this study of this momentous verse of John, we consider the first of these three attributes of Christ’s love. He loved His own as the Passover Lamb which was sacrificed to propitiate their sins. Jesus loved us as the sacrificial lamb.
John 12:46-50, Jesus is our Deliverer and Teacher
John 12:44-45, The Steadfast Preaching of Christ
Christ preached fervently to the very end. Moreover, He maintained the same message because it is the message of the truth from the Father. In this first sermon in this series, we examine the example of Christ in His steadfast proclamation of the truth and His steadfast message. In particular, with regard to the message of Christ, we give attention to the import of verses 44-45 in which Jesus explains His divine equality with the Father and why no one can know God apart from knowing Christ.
John 12:41-43, Confess Christ before Men
Genuine believers confess Christ before men. We are full-time Christians, not splitting our time between faith and unbelief, and we are disciples of Christ who are not ashamed of our Lord or His words. May the Holy Spirit encourage and strengthen us to be men, women, and children who boldly confess Christ, accept persecution for Christ, and be driven by our love for the glory of God.
John 12:39-41, The Hardness of Heart
People do not believe because they have a hardened heart. What does Scripture teach regarding this condition of the human heart and what man is to do about it? in this sermon, we explore John’s application of Isaiah’s prophecy regarding the hardening of Israel and how we can think and live rightly with both doctrines of the sovereignty of God and the responsibility of man.
