Matthew 6:5-18

In our April meeting of Women of the Word, we began with a hymn (“I Need Thee Every Hour” #416) and prayer. Then, we began our time of Scripture memorization [see handout with footnotes below] with Matthew 6:5-8, which continues Jesus’s discussion of the right motives for religious practices. In this passage, he specifically applies this principle to prayer. Next, Matthew 6:9-15 is a model prayer that Jesus gives his disciples to follow. And finally, we ended with Matthew 6:16-18, which applies the right motives for fasting. We closed with prayer.
