Saul and Jonathan, his son, began fighting the Philistines and during this time, we see Saul make foolish decisions and disobey God’s commands. Jonathan, his son, behaves in a very different way, seeking God and trusting in Him, ultimately being used by God to deliver Israel! Saul’s foolishness continues when he makes oaths, or serious promises, which almost cost Jonathan his life. Sadly, Saul will again disobey God’s commands when he fights the Amalekites where God says again that He will take Israel from Saul and give it to another Israelite.
