Jesus is brought to Pilate by the religious leaders, accusing Jesus harshly and wanting Pilate to sentence Jesus to death. Even in the face of these false accusations, Jesus entrusted Himself to the plan of God. Now, the crowd also came, and stirred up by the chief priests, rejected Jesus for another prisoner’s release. Instead they shouted for the crucifixion of Jesus, and Pilate listened. Jesus was then taken away by the Roman soldiers in preparation for His death upon the cross. Jesus knowingly suffered these things for the sake of His own - that they would receive God’s mercy through His selfless sacrifice.
