Years after Nebuchadnezzar’s death, the Babylonian Empire was close to be conquered. The Medes and Persians had surrounded Babylon and besieged the city. But instead of acknowledging God’s sovereign authority, Nebuchadnezzar’s successor, Belshazzar, made fun of God. He would learn the lesson too late that the sovereign God severely judges those who challenge His authority. In the end, Belshazzar lost his life and his kingdom.
