The people had seen Jesus’ miracles so they followed Him. But Jesus went up on the mountain with just His disciples. When He saw the crowd approaching, He knew what He was intending to do to provide bread but asked Philip a question about providing bread in order to test him. The disciples didn’t have a good answer so Jesus made sure they witnessed the miracle when He provided food for the over 5,000 people. This was another sign that Jesus was indeed sent by the God the Father and that people should listen to Him!
