The Holy Spirit Arrives (Acts 2)

Just as Jesus told them, the disciples receive power when the Holy Spirit comes to them in Jerusalem during Pentecost. They begin speaking different foreign languages about the mighty deeds of God, bewildering the foreigners who watch and understand what they are saying. Peter stands up among the crowd, explaining from the Scriptures and from his own eyewitness testimony that Jesus rose from the dead and poured forth the Holy Spirit on these men. Therefore, this Jesus whom Peter’s audience crucified is both Lord and Christ. Pierced to the heart, the people asked what they should do. Peter replied with astoundingly good news: if they repent and get baptized in the name of Jesus, they would not only be forgiven of their sins but would also receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. As a result, God saves about 3,000 souls and grows the disciples not only in number but also in their love for and unity with one another.
