After Mary, Peter, and John discover the empty tomb, the resurrected Jesus appears to Mary and then to the other disciples, showing them His wounds from the cross. He even shows Himself to Thomas who at first did not believe it when he heard that Jesus is alive. Jesus tells Thomas, “Because you have seen Me, have you believed? Blessed are they who did not see, and yet believed.” The apostle John then ends the chapter by telling us that he wrote these things so that we might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God and that by believing we might have life in His name. Our faith in the risen Christ rests not on what our eyes have seen but on the infallible word of God.
